Trauma Healing That Sticks

Real healing isn’t just mental—it’s physical, emotional and energetic. At Lemi Mental Health, we combine EMDR therapy with ear acupuncture to help calm the nervous system, reprocess stuck memories and restore inner balance. It’s modern therapy with ancient roots—and it works.

What is EMDR?

At its core, EMDR is a therapy that helps people heal from trauma without needing to relive every painful detail. It’s a structured, evidence-based process that activates the brain’s natural ability to reprocess stuck memories—often ones that are driving anxiety, low mood, reactivity or physical tension.

Instead of just talking through trauma, EMDR uses bilateral stimulation—often in the form of eye movements, tapping or sound—to help the brain “unstick” memories and file them away where they belong: in the past.

Originally developed to treat PTSD, EMDR has since been shown to help with anxiety, depression, chronic pain, addictions and more. (Yes, science backs it up: studies continue to show it works. See Maxfield, 2019.)

Why Do Memories Get Stuck?

When something traumatic happens, the brain sometimes hits the “record” button but doesn’t process the experience all the way through. Instead of being stored as a memory, the event gets frozen in time—along with all the emotions, body sensations and negative beliefs that came with it.

That’s where EMDR comes in. By stimulating the brain in a specific, safe way, it helps you reprocess these memories so they lose their charge. You don’t forget them—but they no longer run the show.

EMDR Is a Journey, Not a Quick Fix

At Lemi, we take EMDR seriously—and we take our time. Our therapists follow the full eight-phase model, which includes getting to know your story, building emotional resources, identifying target memories and moving carefully into processing.

Rushing EMDR doesn’t work. We build trust first and make sure you’re ready before diving into deeper work.

Adding Ear Acupuncture for Deeper Healing

We’re one of the few clinics integrating EMDR with the NADA 5 Needle Protocol, a form of ear acupuncture that supports calm, focus and emotional regulation. Originally developed to help people detox from substance use and recover from trauma, this protocol involves placing five small needles in each ear—each point linked to the nervous system and internal organs.

Here’s why this pairing is so effective:

  • EMDR helps reprocess the trauma.

  • Ear acupuncture helps regulate the nervous system.

Together, they create a safe, grounded state for deeper healing—helping clients feel more settled, centered, and connected during and after sessions. Many people report better sleep, less anxiety and a stronger sense of inner balance when they combine these two approaches.

Whole-Person Care: Mind, Body, Spirit

This isn’t just about trauma treatment—it’s about helping you feel more alive, more connected and more at peace. EMDR and ear acupuncture tap into the body’s natural healing intelligence, allowing your nervous system to reset, your emotions to settle and your spirit to reconnect with meaning and purpose.

Some clients describe the process as life-changing—not just because they feel “less triggered,” but because they finally feel whole.

Is EMDR Right for You?

EMDR can be transformative, but it isn’t for everyone—especially those in unstable living situations, active substance use or current trauma exposure. That’s why our first step is always creating safety and stability. If EMDR isn’t the right fit just yet, we’ll work with you to get there—gently and compassionately.
